A customer support representative is responsible for dealing with service related queries, complaints or requests of customers. Specific duties of a customer support representative are receiving incoming queries or complaints from customers through phone calls or from visitors, providing more information on service aspects to the customer, forwarding requests or complaints to the operations team, keeping track of all the transactions made in the area, following up so as to ensure that the customer service problem is resolved, calling back on customers to inform about the service provided, and promoting a positive customer service environment in the organization. A customer support representative typically reports to a customer service manager. A customer support representative should have an associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree. Prior experience working as a customer support representative is desirable. A pleasant telephone manner is essential for a customer support representative position. Familiarity with MS Word and Excel is required.
