The Extraordinary Cafe Alamid

August 14th, 2010 by admin

Very little is known about one of the most expensive yet most internationally recognized coffee that can be bought. It’s found only in some places of South East Asia. It has superb flavor and aroma making it incomparable with other coffees. The bean usually known as “Cafe Alamid” is produced in Indonesia, Vietnam , East Timor and the Philippines but is widely recognized and distributed in many parts of the world.

What’s even more astonishing is it’s origin. Unlike almost all coffee that come from plants that grow from the ground, this particular coffee takes it’s name from a tiny animal known as Alamid in the Philippines’ also called the Asian Palm Civet also know as the Philippine Civet Cat (although it is not a member of the feline family).

History states it all started when a group of coffee farmers examined the droppings of these small creatures after a night long feast of coffee cherries. Without thinking of any possible health problems, these native farmers started washing, roasting and brewing these droppings which became well known and turned into an entirely new and unorthodox way of coffee making.

A study had been conducted and researchers came up with a standard procedure in washing and roasting these exotic coffee beans to eliminate any harmful germs while retaining it’s unique flavor and aroma. There were also research that answered why this excellent tasting coffee is produced from these droppings. As the beans go through the natural way of digestion inside the Alamid (where they actually retain they’re natural form and texture) – the Alamid’s digestive enzymes get infused into the beans. What helps it be better is the fact that they will only consume the nicest and ripest coffee cherries.

Today, Cafe Alamid is starting to really make a reputation for itself being a top-grade coffee which sells up to as much as $ 1000 for each pound. Quite a few coffee shops serve them at $33 for every cup. The industry has various types of coffee but Cafe Alamid is undoubtedly becoming more and more famous and surely, the billions of coffee lovers globally would have a true experience with a cup of this world class coffee.
