What is Iselin’s disease?

February 24th, 2010 by admin

A very much uncommon problem in the feet of the children between their ages 8-13 years is what we called the Iselin’s disease. What happens in this condition is that there is an irritation at the base of the fifth metatarsal on the outside of the foot where one of the calf muscles inserts. The cause of this condition is usually due to repetitive strain and stress on the growth plater area of the bone. Children who are experiencing this kind of condition most often complain of pain on the outside of the foot and it may be bad enough to make them limp.  The treatment that is needed is simply involves a period of rest. The more severe cases of Iselin’s disease will usually be put in a plaster cast.
