About Afshar Rugs

Afshar is a city in Persia (now known as Iran). The rugs which are woven in the city are referred to as Afshar rugs and they are generally smaller in size compared to other Persian rugs. Geometric pattern is the most common type of patter which can be found in these rugs. These rugs generally have the following designs: Afshar-e-Morghi, botehs, medallions of diamond shape connected together, All-over gul farangi etc. The main colors for these rugs are dark red, brown, dark blue, ocher, camel, burnt orange, dark reddish-blue and reddish brown. They generally have woolen foundation but cotton is also used at times.
