This text on great pick up lines, clears up the confusion. Apparently, not all pick up lines are cheesy, creepy or make women roll their eyes.

Apparently, the ones that are great, tend to have other names, such as “openers”, “conversation starters”, and so forward. And to be honest, I understand the concept. This hollywood like notion that men should naturally and out of the depth of their soul always have the perfect thing to say without preparation is just wishful thinking. Its just practical and understandable that man would need to prepare and have some lines on the ready.
